NMR status in ConocoPhillips and Review of an LWD-NMR log run in OBM

by Mehmet Fidan, ConocoPhillips Norge

Abstract

Residual oil saturation after water flood is a challenge in a chalk formation. Standard Sw calculations based on Archie is at risk due to water weakening and fracturing of the rock and therefore possible changes in parameters used in the calculation. NMR logs have been considered as good alternatives and justified to be acquired in injector sidetrack wells. These logs are run in few wells for calibration purposes and considered as success, yet in OBM they are challenged.

In this presentation an MWD-NMR log run in OBM will be reviewed and comparison to core and other logs will be made.
