Bed Boundary Mapping Tools
by Matthew Spotkaeff, Schlumberger
Abstract
The North Sea is an area of high activity for Bed Boundary Mapping tools. However, in most cases the use of these tools is limited to strictly real-time well placement services. As these tools produce a point-by-point distance to boundary that is azimuthal, this distance can be represented as ribbon surfaces that can be displayed in differing visualisation packages. These surface ribbons are a highly powerful tool in reinterpreting the pre-drill structure based on actual well data, and thereby of the accurate calculation of reserves.
In this presentation an overview will be given of the generation and use of these ribbon surfaces.
