QC and Interpretation of LWD Density Logs

by Rob Askew, Halliburton, Sperry Drilling Services

Abstract

LWD density tools are used more and more for reservoir evaluation, in high-angle and horizontal wells where interpretation is challenging. There are often more than one bulk density curve available, i.e. compensated, several azimuthal, bore-hole corrected, etc. The question is often asked; which is the one, “best” curve to use in my interpretation? This presentation will show that the answer depends on many factors and different curves can be the “best” curve under different conditions. Guidelines for picking this elusive, “best” curve are discussed.

Rob Askew, CV

After working as a mining geologist and wireline engineer joined Sperry-Sun in 1981. Currently working as a MWD\LWD petrophysicist. He spends some of his time interpreting Azimuthal Density and other images.
