Use of Pressure Data in Reservoir Characterization with Examples from Fields in Production

by Torunn Svindland, EnVision

Abstract

During the last two years EnVision Invenio has developed a system for the organization, evaluation and interpretation of pressure data, EnFind. It is proposed that changes in pressure recorded within a field during production are related to the architecture of the reservoir.
The Veslefrikk Field has been used as a pilot to test this hypothesis, and all pressure data are connected to the geological zonation. The essence of the geological understanding is expressed in the zonation and this forms the basis for location of in-place reserves.
Input data are RFT measurements, production pressure, temperature and well path information, together with reservoir zonation and corresponding porosity.
The flexibility of EnFind makes it possible to compare pressure between different wells, reservoir zones and between structurally separated compartments in crossplotts.
EnFind has been been developed in close cooperation with a multi-disciplinary group of users: geologists, reservoir and production engineers. Further development direction will include the incorporation of additional reservoir parameters such permeability and mobility.
This work /study has been economically supported by; I&K LUP Statoil, Veslefrikk Statoil, Innovasjon Norge and Skattefunn.
In cooperation with EnVision Invenio, Margrethe Wiig and Bernt Sandøy from Statoil have been the major contributors to the development of EnFind..
