Data Acquisition and Log Evaluation in High Density Cesium Formate Fluids

by Erik S. Pedersen, Statoil

Abstract

A full open-hole formation evaluation of the Kvitebjørn reservoir has been carried out with LWD tools. The evaluation has been aided by the development of a novel logging interpretation solution for an LWD density tool, in which the extremely high photoelectric effect of cesium-rich filtrate plays a vital role. Using PEB and ROBB quadrant data in combination with resistivity measurements from both the LWD drill pass and ream pass, a very reliable and consistent net reservoir definition is produced. The final interpretation result matches core porosities from various lithologies in three different wells.

Erik S. Pedersen, CV

Erik holds an MSc in Reservoir physics from the University of Bergen. He joined Statoil as a petrophysicist in 1997 where he has been working with data acquisition and petrophysics for the Tampen area, the Huldra field, and the Kvitebjørn Field. He is currently working as a reservoir engineer in the Statoil Kvitebjørn asset.
